PRODUCT REVIEW
Well, what if your baby is allergic not only to lactose but
also to soy. Don't be disappointed. Here is this Enfamil
Nutramigen LIPIL which is is a hypoallergenic formula for
infants who are sensitive to intact protein found in
milk-based and soy-based formulas.
The formula also includes docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and
arachidonic acid (ARA), nutrients found in breast milk that
promote brain and eye development. Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL
contains extensively hydrolyzed protein proven effective for
colic due to cow’s milk allergy. We have heard from several
moms who have changed from Isomil or Nestle products and
moved to Nutramigen after struggling with Colic issues. Even
some doctors recommend moving to hypoallergenic formulas in
order to avoid fuzziness.
Also, Nutramigen is iron fortified and sucrose free.
Enfamil Nutramigen LIPIL is designed to provide a sole
source of nutrition for infants up to age 4-6 months, and
provide a major source of nutrition through 12 months of age
when indicated. But be sure to substitute with other foods
after 6 monts of age and do not rely completely on formulas.
Please read our article on When to introduce Solids, in
order to better understand all the factors involved.
The total calories come from the following break down
48% calories from Fat
41% calories from Carbs
11% calories from Protein
The fat calories have the following break down:
44% palm Olein oil
19.5% soy oil
19.5% coconut oil
14.5% high oleic sunflower oil
2.5% single-cell oil blend rich in docosahexaenoic acid
(DHA) and arachidonic acid (ARA)
The hypoallergenic protein source is extensively hydrolyzed
casein that is supplemented with three amino acids: L-cystine,
L-tyrosine, and L-tryptophan to provide an appropriate
balance of amino acids to the infant.
Like we mentioned in other reviews, some children may not
like the smell of this formula. Also some children do not
like the way this formula tastes. This may be due to some of
the special ingredients of Enfamil Nutramigen, as it
certainly does not taste like cow’s milk or soy-based
formulas; Well, you need hypoallergenic, so seems like you
can't have everything. However, many infants quickly adjust
to its taste.
